For years, Bitcoin’s most devoted holders treated self-custody like a religion. Not your keys, not your coins. Now those same believers are quietly handing their coins to Wall Street, and the numbers tell a story that would have been heretical just a few years ago. Approximately $3 billion in Bitcoin was transferred into BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) around the end of 2025, a move that coincided with the first observed decline in self-custodied Bitcoin in roughly 15 years.
