Coinbase rebrands Base App back to Coinbase Wallet after a year

Coinbase’s experiment with rebranding its self-custodial wallet as the “Base App” is officially over. On September 10, 2026, the @coinbasewallet account confirmed the app would revert to its original Coinbase Wallet name, closing the book on what the company is now characterizing as a brief social experiment. The rebrand back arrives roughly 14 months after Coinbase made a big show of renaming the wallet at its “A New Day One” event in July 2025. From wallet to everything app, and back again When Coinbase rechristened its wallet as the Base App on July 16, 2025, the ambition was hard to miss. The company wanted to build an “everything app” for crypto, blending trading, USDC-powered payments, social interactions through the Farcaster protocol, and a mini-app ecosystem into a single product. The technical infrastructure to support this vision was impressive, too. Coinbase introduced Flashblocks on the Base Layer 2 network, slashing block times to just 200 milliseconds.
