Elon Musk hints at potential SpaceX and Tesla merger

Elon Musk just said the quiet part out loud. During a September 15 appearance at the All-In Summit, the CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX described the question of merging his two flagship companies as a “great question.” The comment alone would be enough to move markets. But it lands against a backdrop of accelerating operational overlap between the two companies, a record-breaking SpaceX IPO, and analyst estimates placing the probability of a merger as high as 80-90% by 2027. The synergies are already here On Tesla’s Q2 earnings call on July 22, Musk pointed to growing operational synergies between the two companies. The most prominent example is the Terafab chipmaking project, a joint semiconductor manufacturing initiative that represents one of the clearest points of integration between the automaker and the rocket company. Then there’s Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, which has been woven into Tesla’s vehicle connectivity stack.
