Hollywood has always been an early adopter of technology that makes impossible shots possible. The latest tool getting traction on studio lots and indie sets alike: fal.ai, a generative media infrastructure platform whose AI-powered video editing capabilities have become its fastest-growing business segment over the past year. The company, which now serves over 2.5 million developers and generates billions of assets monthly, closed a $140 million Series D funding round in late 2025 that pushed its valuation to $4.5 billion. That’s a striking number for a company founded just four years ago. From developer tool to Hollywood workhorse Fal.ai started life in 2021 as an inference layer for AI models, essentially a fast API that lets developers tap into generative AI without building infrastructure from scratch.
