Houthi forces claim strikes on sensitive sites in Riyadh as Gulf tensions escalate

Yemen’s Houthi forces launched missile and drone strikes targeting sites near Riyadh’s international airport and Saudi Aramco facilities on September 19, sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky over the Saudi capital. The attack, which also targeted Aramco infrastructure in the port city of Yanbu, marks the first air-raid alert in Riyadh since fighting escalated in July 2026. Saudi air defenses intercepted at least one ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh. The coalition also reported thwarting additional strike attempts on sites in Bisha, Taif, Farasan, and Yanbu. Saudi authorities said no casualties or significant damage resulted from the attacks, though a fire at an Aramco fuel depot temporarily disrupted flights.
