Injective Meridian mainnet upgrade proposal passes with 99% support

Injective’s governance process just delivered one of those near-unanimous results that would make most democratic institutions jealous. Roughly 99% of INJ stakers voted in favor of the Meridian Mainnet Upgrade, clearing the path for what amounts to the blockchain’s biggest institutional play yet. The proposal, designated IIP-701, introduces regulated token standards on Injective’s EVM layer designed specifically for compliant issuance of real-world assets. The upgrade is scheduled to go live on September 24, 2026, at block height 184,394,000. What the Meridian upgrade actually does At its core, the v1.20.4 upgrade is about making Injective a place where institutions don’t have to choose between blockchain efficiency and regulatory compliance. The new features allow token issuers to bake regulatory requirements directly into their assets on the Injective EVM. The upgrade also unifies what Injective calls “MultiVM markets,” enabling seamless trading and settlement for tokenized assets across different virtual machine environments.
