IREN’s 2GW Sweetwater Hub earns base load status in ERCOT’s Batch Zero screening

IREN Limited just cleared a meaningful hurdle in the race to plug massive data centers into the Texas power grid. The company’s 2GW Sweetwater Hub has been conditionally classified as Base Load within ERCOT’s Batch Zero interconnection screening process, a designation that treats the project as known demand rather than a speculative request sitting in queue. For a company building out more than 5 GW of global data center capacity, getting two gigawatts recognized as credible load in the nation’s most energy-hungry grid operator’s system is a substantial win. What Batch Zero actually means ERCOT, the grid operator for most of Texas, is drowning in interconnection requests. Hundreds of gigawatts worth of large-load applications, predominantly from data centers, have piled up as AI infrastructure buildout accelerates across the state.
