Jump Firedancer ends support for Frankendancer as Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade nears

Jump Crypto’s Firedancer team is pulling the plug on Frankendancer, the hybrid Solana validator client that has been running on mainnet since September 2024. The cutoff comes when Alpenglow, Solana’s next major consensus upgrade, activates on mainnet in October 2026. The move signals a clean break from the transitional architecture that helped bootstrap Firedancer’s presence on the network. With the full Firedancer client already live on mainnet since December 2025, the hybrid version has outlived its usefulness. What Frankendancer actually was Frankendancer was exactly what it sounds like: a Frankensteined validator client stitched together from two different codebases. It paired Firedancer’s high-performance networking and block production components with the runtime and consensus layers from Agave, the other major Solana client maintained by Anza. As of mid-to-late 2026, the combined stake represented by Firedancer-family clients (both the full version and Frankendancer) sits between 14% and 26% of total Solana stake.
