Meta launches $1,299 virtual-reality glasses to rival Apple’s Vision Pro

Meta just made its most aggressive move yet in the spatial computing wars. At Meta Connect 2026 on September 23, the company unveiled the Meta VR Glasses, a mixed-reality headset priced at $1,299 that is smaller, lighter, and roughly a third the cost of Apple’s Vision Pro. The device ships in spring 2027 and represents Meta’s clearest attempt to own the premium end of the VR market without asking buyers to refinance their homes. Tracking capabilities include both eye and hand tracking with pinch gestures, which means users can navigate menus and interact with virtual objects without holding a controller. For those who prefer physical inputs, the glasses work with existing Quest controllers and the full Quest content library. The form factor is the real story here.
