MSC, the world’s largest container shipping line by fleet size, has suspended its service to Russian Black Sea ports following a drone strike. The move places MSC alongside a growing roster of carriers that have pulled back from the region as Ukrainian attacks on commercial vessels reach unprecedented levels. The suspension marks a significant escalation in the commercial fallout from what Ukraine has dubbed Operation MoLoChKa, a campaign of drone strikes targeting Russian-linked ships and port infrastructure that began on July 6, 2026. By late July, Ukrainian forces had carried out more than 236 strikes in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. A cascade of carrier withdrawals Turkey’s Kalyon suspended its Russian voyages around August 3-5 after drone strikes damaged the ro-ro vessel Nadezhda and the boxship LDR Yasar, injuring crew members in both incidents. Russia’s own Fesco, one of the country’s major shipping operators, also halted its Black Sea operations after losing its container ship Yanina.
