Nvidia partners with 8 Australian firms for a 2GW AI infrastructure buildout

Australia is about to get a serious computing upgrade. Nvidia announced a partnership with eight Australian cloud and data center operators on September 9, 2026, targeting up to 2 gigawatts of AI compute capacity by 2027. To put that number in perspective, Australia’s entire existing data center footprint sits at roughly 1.6 GW. This deal would more than double it. The eight partners span the country’s data center ecosystem: Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk. Nvidia’s role is to supply the technology stack, specifically its full-stack DSX AI factory platform, which bundles GPUs, networking infrastructure, software, and broader ecosystem support. The Australian firms handle the less glamorous but capital-intensive work of actually building, owning, and operating the facilities. What A$70 billion buys you Nvidia has not disclosed the capital expenditure involved in the initiative, but industry estimates for equipping 2 GW of AI compute capacity range from A$70 billion to over A$100 billion.
