Operation Epic Fury, the US military campaign against Iran that launched around February 28, has already burned through initial cost projections at a pace that makes original estimates look quaint. What started as a $25 billion price tag in late April ballooned to $29 billion by mid-May, then to $37.5 billion by late July. And that $37.5 billion figure doesn’t even include the full cost of restoring what’s been spent down. The Pentagon’s assurance that current funding is sufficient sits awkwardly next to its own formal request for roughly $80 billion in supplemental funding, submitted around June 2026. The White House went even further, putting forward an official supplemental request totaling $87.6 billion, of which $67.1 billion is specifically tagged for defense spending.
