Renzo Protocol, best known for its liquid restaking infrastructure on EigenLayer, is branching into automated yield strategies with a new product called Renzo Basis. The tool will execute delta-neutral basis trades on Hyperliquid, the on-chain perpetual futures exchange that has quietly become one of the highest-volume trading venues in crypto. The product will initially support two pairs: Bitcoin and HYPE, Hyperliquid’s native token. The pitch is straightforward: earn yield from funding rate payments without having to bet on which direction the market moves next. How Renzo Basis actually works In crypto terms, a basis trade involves purchasing an asset on the spot market while simultaneously opening a short position on a perpetual futures contract for the same asset. When the futures market is trading at a premium to spot, which happens frequently because leveraged traders tend to be long-biased, the short position collects funding rate payments from those long traders.
