Securitize CEO highlights onchain records for shareholder engagement

Public companies have a surprisingly basic problem: they often don’t know who owns their stock. Carlos Domingo, co-founder and CEO of Securitize, is betting that blockchain can fix that, and he’s putting his own company’s shares on the line to prove it. Securitize, which recently listed on the NYSE under the ticker SECZ, is pitching onchain records as the authoritative shareholder register for public companies. The traditional system, built around the Depository Trust Company, creates layers of intermediaries that obscure who actually holds a company’s shares. The DTC problem, explained simply When you buy stock through a brokerage, you don’t appear on the company’s books as a direct owner. Instead, the DTC holds shares in “street name” through a chain of custodians and brokers. The company issuing the stock sees a handful of large institutions on its register, not the millions of individual investors who actually own pieces of the business. This makes routine corporate actions, like distributing dividends, conducting proxy votes, or simply communicating with shareholders, far more complicated than it needs to be.
