Shinhan Financial partners with Visa on stablecoin and AI payments

One of South Korea’s banking heavyweights just locked arms with the world’s largest payment network to bring stablecoins into the country’s financial plumbing. Shinhan Financial Group signed a strategic agreement with Visa on August 25 to jointly develop stablecoin-based payment infrastructure, a move that could reshape how money moves across one of Asia’s most digitally advanced economies. The deal spans the full stablecoin lifecycle: issuance, remittance, and redemption. But the real ambition goes further. The two companies plan to design business models that weave stablecoins into card payment settlements and both B2B and B2C transactions, all while navigating South Korea’s evolving regulatory framework. What the partnership actually covers The collaboration will leverage Visa’s stablecoin platform to run verification tests on core stablecoin functions. Shinhan wants to make sure that issuing, sending, and cashing out stablecoins works seamlessly within its existing banking infrastructure.
