A cross-regional League of Legends invitational is coming June 26-27, and it’s bringing some of the biggest names in competitive LoL together for a weekend of best-of-one matches. Korean streaming platform SOOP is organizing the event, pitting three Korean rosters against three teams from the Americas in what amounts to the most interesting unofficial international tournament of the off-season.
What the tournament looks like
The event, officially called the Cross Regional – SOOP LoL Invitational, features nine best-of-one matches spread across two days.
Representing “Team KR” are three squads: DN SOOPers, Dplus KIA, and KIWOOM DRX. On the other side of the rift, “Team AMER” fields Cloud9 and FlyQuest from the LCS, alongside LOS from the Brazilian league.
The blockchain threads connecting these teams
SOOP hasn’t announced any blockchain or digital currency component to the invitational. There are no token launches, no NFT ticket stubs, no on-chain betting integrations.
Cloud9 established a partnership with Blockchain.com back in 2022. That deal focused on educating the organization’s fanbase about digital assets.
FlyQuest integrated Theta EdgeCloud into its operations, using the decentralized streaming network to power interactive fan experiences. Instead of relying entirely on centralized platforms, FlyQuest experimented with blockchain-based infrastructure to deliver content and engage its community.
Why crypto investors should care about esports content plays
Cloud9’s Blockchain.com partnership and FlyQuest’s Theta EdgeCloud integration represent two different models for how esports and crypto might coexist going forward. One is marketing-driven: use a team’s brand to funnel attention toward a crypto product. The other is infrastructure-driven: use blockchain technology to improve how content gets delivered and how fans interact with it.
