Spotify labels AI Persona profiles, excludes music from recommendations

Spotify is rolling out a new classification system for AI-generated artist profiles, tagging them with an “AI Persona” label and stripping their music from editorial, algorithmic, and personalized recommendations by default. The AI Persona label will appear directly on artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities. That’s a meaningful distinction from artists who simply use AI as a tool in their creative process. A human producer who uses AI for mixing or sound design won’t get flagged. A fully synthetic “artist” that exists only as a generative output will. The bigger bite comes from the recommendation exclusion. Spotify’s algorithm is the primary discovery engine for the vast majority of listeners. Being cut off from editorial playlists, algorithmic suggestions, and personalized recommendations doesn’t technically remove AI Persona music from the platform.
