Storj Labs, the company behind one of crypto’s longest-running decentralized storage networks, filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 26 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of West Virginia. The filing aims to resolve what the company calls “legacy obligations” from prior operations and acquisitions, while keeping the lights on for customers and node operators. Here’s the thing: Storj isn’t just a company. It’s also a token ecosystem with a fixed maximum supply of 425 million STORJ tokens that serve as the economic backbone of its decentralized storage network. When the entity behind that ecosystem enters bankruptcy court, token holders are left holding something that looks a lot like a front-row seat to a restructuring they have very little control over.
