Visa is making its biggest security play in years. The payments giant plans to acquire BioCatch, a behavioral biometrics company specializing in fraud detection, in a deal reportedly valued between $2B and $2.4B in cash. BioCatch announced the planned acquisition on LinkedIn on August 3. For a company that was valued at $1.3B just two years ago when Permira Growth Opportunities took a majority stake, that’s a near-doubling in valuation. Not a bad return for Permira’s roughly 22-month holding period. What BioCatch actually does Think of BioCatch as a digital body language reader. Instead of relying solely on passwords or two-factor authentication, the company’s technology analyzes how users physically interact with their devices. The way you swipe, type, hold your phone, even pause between actions creates a behavioral fingerprint that’s extremely difficult for fraudsters to replicate. The numbers behind this tech are staggering. In 2025 alone, BioCatch’s platform analyzed $17.2T in transactions, roughly equivalent to about 70% of US GDP flowing through its behavioral analysis engine in a single year.
